Set on a wooded, sloping lot on Cape Cod, this landscape construction and design project steps a series of stone-connected terraces down the hillside, from a fire pit gathering space to a sunken spa framed in fieldstone. The terraced landscape design follows the slope instead of fighting it.
Hardscape Construction: The Fire Pit Terrace
A custom stone fire pit anchors this upper terrace, circled by black Adirondack chairs on a patterned paver patio. From here, broad granite steps lead down to the spa level below. Building a hardscape that settles into a sloped, wooded lot is the core of our landscape construction work.
A Fieldstone Spa
Wrapped in fieldstone, the sunken spa feels carved into the slope. Lounge chairs and woven seating sit in the shade of the surrounding tree canopy.
Layered Plantings & Native Design
Flowering shrubs and dogwood trees layer color through the beds, set against a backdrop of white pine and native hardwoods. The planting plan softens the stonework and settles the hardscape into its Cape Cod woodland.
We’ve cared for Cape Cod landscapes since 1973. After installation we return season after season to prune, plant, and keep the stonework, the paver patio, granite steps, and fieldstone spa, sound as the garden matures. If you’re planning a terrace, patio, or garden of your own, see how we approach landscape construction and design, or get in touch about your project.
